Online Russian Language and Culture Course for Italian Students Comes to a Close

In April, a short practical online Russian language course and an online course in Russian language and Russian culture, organized by STOUH for Italian students of the Catholic University of Milan and Brescia (Italy), came to a close.

On February 18–19, 2021, the 7th International Conference on “Digitalization of Society and the Future of Christianity. Concerning the Transformation of the Value-Normative System of Society” was held.

Observances in Memory of Archpriest Vsevolod Shpiller
January 8th is the memorial day of the famous spiritual father and preacher Archpriest Vsevolod Shpiller, whose priestly service led to the creation of the spiritual community at the Church of Saint Nicholas in Kuznetskaya Sloboda that subsequently provided the impetus for the establishment of Saint Tikhon´s Orthodox University of the Humanities.

On December 8, 2019, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, His Beatitude Tikhon, Archbishop of Washington and Metropolitan of All America and Canada, visited the Moscow Eparchy House, the main building of Saint Tikhon`s Orthodox University of the Humanities, as part of the celebrations on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Moscow metochion of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA). During his visit, His Beatitude chaired a symposium on the life of the OCA.

From November 11-14, 2019, a series of guest lectures by Italian colleagues from the Catholic University of Milan in Brescia took place at the Faculty of Education (Faculty of Pedagogy) of Saint Tikhon`s Orthodox University of the Humanities (STOUH). Among other things, the talks touched upon the area of research projects, which are new for Russia.
Collaboration Continues Between STOUH and UNICATT
From November 4-8, 2019, as part of the Erasmus+ Academic Mobility Partnership between the Catholic University of Milan (UNICATT) and Saint Tikhon´s Orthodox University of the Humanities (STOUH), Senior Researcher Ivan Pavliutkin from STOUH´s Sociology of Religion laboratory gave a lecture series for Master´s students in psychology and sociology, as well as for doctoral students in political sciences. He also met with professors from the university who are conducting research into the family, birth rates, and social generativity.
Pokrov Readings in Brussels
On November 5-6, 2019, the international conference "Readings for the Feast of the Holy Protection (Pokrov)" was convened in the capital of Belgium. As in previous years, it was attended by faculty members of Saint Tikhon`s Orthodox University of the Humanities (STOUH). The conference held in Brussels this year was the fifth. This year, it was on the life, ministry, and legacy of Saint John of Kronstadt.
STOUH Faculty of History Members Take Part in First International Saint Petersburg Historical Forum
On October 29-November 3, 2019, the First International Saint Petersburg Historical Forum took place at Saint Petersburg State University. Over 500 people took part in the forum, among them over 100 foreign scholars from 30 countries around the world, as well as members of the Faculty of History at Saint Tikhon's Orthodox University of the Humanities (STOUH).
Students from STOUH Faculty of Theology Take Part in Theological Meetings for Young People in Germany
Grant Shalvashvili and Anastasia Salimovskaya visited Germany as part of the “Church in Europe” working group of the Petersburg Dialogue forum. During their trip, they took part in meetings with professors and students from the faculties of theology of the Universities of Munich, Erlangen, and Berlin, and also found out about the situation and importance of religious education in German institutions.

STOUH Institute of Distance Learning Organizes International Conference on “Digital Education: The 21st Cenutry”
On October 15-16, 2019, the second international academic conference on “Digital Education: The 21st Century” was held in the SAP Digital Leadership Center in Moscow. The organizers of the conference were SAP CIS, Surgutneftegas, and the Institute of Distance Learning of Saint Tikhon's Orthodox University of the Humanities (STOUH IDL). The goal of the event was to create a platform on which professionals active in the field of digital education would be able to share experience.

Faculty Members of Institute of Modern History of the Russian Orthodox Church at 10th Pokrov Readings in Helsinki
With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the 10th Pokrov Readings on “Faith and Piety in the Era of Persecutions: The 70th Anniversary of the Repose of Saint Seraphim of Vyritsa”, took place in Helsinki, Finland. They were organized by the Representation of the Moscow Patriarchate in Finland. Talks at the Readings were given by Priest Alexander Mazyrin, Andrei Alexandrovich Kostriukov, and Tatiana Ivanovna Shevchenko.

On October 12, 2019, Archpriest Lev Semenov, head of the Center for Spiritual Education at Saint Tikhon's Orthodox University of the Humanities (STOUH), gave a talk at an interconfessional academic conference on “Traditional Religions for Peace and Harmony Among Peoples”, which took place under the aegis of the Temporary Administrator of the Metropolitan Precinct of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

On Saturday, October 12, 2019, the first session of the regular Medieval Studies Seminar in this academic year was convened under the aegis of the Department of Romance Languages. A talk on “In the 'Dark Forest' of Witnesses: Jacopo da Cessole's Book 'Libellus de ludo schachorum' and its Transmission throughout Medieval Europe” was given by Dario Personeni, a researcher at the Bergamo State Archive.
STOUH Associate Professor Natalia Bogatyryova Presents at Russian Book Days in Belarus
On October 7-8, 2019, Natalia Iurievna Bogatyryova, Associate Professor of the Department of Pedagogy and Methodology of Primary Education of the Faculty of Education (Faculty of Teacher Training) of Saint Tikhon's Orthodox University of the Humanities (STOUH), took part in the Russian Federation Children's and Youth Book Days in the Republic of Belarus. The event was aimed at popularizing the Russian language and the literature and culture of Russia, and also at strengthening Russo-Belorussian ties in the humanities.
STOUH Associate Professor Irina Melentieva Attends International Shmelyov Readings
On October 7-8, 2019, a conference on “The Artistic World of Ivan Shmelyov” took place at the Maxim Gorkiy Institute of World Literature. It was attended by 40 researchers from Russia, the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Italy, and China. Saint Tikhon's Orthodox University of the Humanities (STOUH) was represented by Associate Professor Irina Evgenievna Melentieva of the Department of the History and Theory of Literature of the Faculty of Philology.
International Seminar on “The Paradox of the Association Between Religion and Family in Contemporary Russia”
On October 3, 2019, an international seminar took place as part of the project “The Paradox of the Association Between Religion and Family in Contemporary Russia” (supported by a grant from the Russian National Fund). In attendance was Sara Mazzucchelli, a faculty member of the Center for Family Research and the Catholic University of Milan. Sara Mazzucchelli's research is on the social and cultural transformations of the family and family relations, the balance between family and work, and social policy.
Associate Professor Irina Melentieva Presents at Conference on “Anna Akhmatova: Russian and National Literatures”
On September 25-26, the 15th International Academic Conference on the recurring theme of “Russian Classics: Russian and National Literatures”, took place in Erevan, Armenia; it was dedicated to the 135th anniversary of Anna Andreevna Akhmatova's birth. The forum was attended by Associate Professor Irina Evgenievna Melentieva from Saint Tikhon's Orthodox University of the Humanities (STOUH).
